5th Assam State Equestrian Championship Kicks Off in Guwahati

This year, the championship will see the participation of 74 riders and 41 horses across various disciplines and events.

The 5th Assam State Equestrian Championship began today at the 4th Assam Police Battalion (APBN) premises in Guwahati, drawing top riders and equestrian enthusiasts from across the state. The prestigious three-day event aims to promote equestrian sports and showcase Assam’s growing pool of talented riders.

This year, the championship will see the participation of 74 riders and 41 horses across various disciplines and events. Teams representing institutions like Assam Valley School (AVS), Tezpur, Army Base Missamari, NCC Guwahati, Royal Global University, EFA Centre Dibrugarh, and Assam Police (4th APBN) are competing.

Organised under the aegis of the Equestrian Federation of Assam (EFA), the event reflects the increasing popularity of the sport in the state since 2022. The competition is expected to highlight the skills, discipline, and commitment of the riders, some of whom are already showing promise for national-level participation.

Col Jagat Singh, officiating President of the Equestrian Federation of India, and Col SS Allhawat, Executive Committee member of the National Federation, are overseeing the technical aspects of the championship. They are being assisted by Dr Tek Chand from the ITBP.

Prominent EFA officials including S K Barua (President), B K Dey, IPS (Technical Director), and Manoj Jalan were present at the inauguration ceremony today.
