Security forces in Longding district, Arunachal Pradesh, have issued a ‘high alert’ due to potential abduction attempts by militants, especially in vulnerable areas near the Indo-Myanmar border.

Advisories have been issued to all Rajas (Village Chiefs), Gaon Burahs, and important individuals, urging them not to go out alone and promptly report any kind of suspicious activities in their localities to the security forces.

A senior police official posted in the district while confirming the development also added that security cover of all important political leaders has also been reviewed and adequate measures are being taken in this regard.

Intelligence agencies had reported the presence of a heavily armed 18 member group of NSCN (Ang Mai) faction camping in the jungle areas near the tri-junction of Sangnu, Nyahsa, Yannu and Zangkham villages of Mon district in Nagaland which is adjacent to Longkhaw and Pumao villages in Longding district. The group which is reportedly trying to sneak into Arunachal Pradesh through Nagaland is led by self-styled Captain Noktun Konyak.

It might be mentioned that there have been 3 cases of abduction in the Longding district during the past one and a half months.

The village Chief and Gaon Burah of Chop village in Wakka circle are still in militant captivity, with a demand of Rs 1.65 crore for their release. Governor Lt Gen K. T. Parnaik assured during a recent visit that the state government is aware of the matter and is taking necessary action to ensure his release.
