Nagaland CM Rio condoles death of former Minister SK Sangtam

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio condoled the death of former state minister SK Sangtam who died on Thursday at a private hospital after prolonged illness.

Expressing grief and shock at the demise of the former Minister in-charge of PWD, Economics & Statistics, and Legal Metrology, in Nagaland Government, CM Rio said that his demise has created a vacuum, which will be difficult to fill.

In a condolence message CM Rio said that it is a great loss for the Naga society in general and Sangtam community in particular.

CM Rio recalled working with him from 1989 to 2002, and said that he found him to be a selfless person who constantly worked for the benefit of the people, particularly those on the margins.

“S.K. Sangtam was an enthusiastic and passionate leader who had served the society in different capacities since his youth. We worked together from 1989 to 2002, and I found him to be a selfless person, who always worked for the welfare of the people, especially those from the marginalised section. His demise has created a vacuum, which will be difficult to fill. It is indeed a great loss for the Naga society in general and Sangtam community in particular; however, let us celebrate his life by remembering the noble contributions he had made to the society,” said CM Rio.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to God to give them strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.

“On this day of sorrow, my wife and family join me in conveying our heartfelt condolences and it is our prayer that God almighty would grant solace and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace,” said Rio.

Nagaland Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton also expressed grief at the demise of the former minister.

In a condolence message, Nagaland Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer said that SK Sangtam’s dedication and contributions to his community and the people of the State would be remembered with respect.

The legacy would continue to inspire all, he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton took to X and wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of former minister Shri S.K. Sangtam. His service and dedication to the people were exemplary and his legacy of commitment and integrity will continue to inspire us. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace!”
