In his address to the state, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio mentioned that his government stands committed to facilitate for a final solution to the Naga political issue
While talks have presumably reached an advanced stage, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today once again reached out to the Centre and the Naga political groups, urging them that they reach a consensus soon for a final and acceptable solution to the vexed Naga Political issue.
Chief Minister Rio made this fervent appeal during his address to the state on the occasion of the 61st Statehood Day celebrations.
The Nagaland Chief Minister reiterated that his government always stands committed to fulfil the aspirations of the Naga people who have been long yearning for a solution to the decades long Naga political issue.
Chief Minister Rio said, “While making all efforts to continue marching on the path of development and progress, we continue to give top most priority to the peaceful resolution of the Naga Political Issue, which has been the innermost desire of our people for a very long time. On this 61st Statehood Day, I once again reiterate my Government’s strong commitment to facilitate the peaceful resolution of the long pending Naga Political Issue.”
In his appeal to the stakeholders of the ongoing peace process, Rio said, “I also call upon all the Naga political groups, Government of India and other stakeholders to find ways of overcoming their remaining differences and to arrive at a peaceful and early resolution of the Naga political issue. “
One other key issue that the Nagaland Chief Minister mentioned in his speech was about the government’s desire to usher massive progress and development in areas under Eastern Nagaland.
Neiphiu Rio while batting for unity amongst everyone, pushed for talks as the sole way of resolving any grievances.
Chief Minister Rio said, “Due to some historical and geographical factors, there is still less socio-economic and infrastructure development in Eastern Nagaland region, as compared to the rest of the State. To address and redress this issue of backwardness in Eastern Nagaland and some other pockets, the State Government, in 2003, had created Department of Under Developed Areas (DUDA). During the past 20 (twenty) years, the Central and State Governments have been trying their level best to remove the developmental deficits in these backward regions. A special development package of `180 crore for Eastern Nagaland under PM DeVINE is currently under implementation. More such developmental projects are the need of the hour. We have done a lot, but much more remains to be done. Let me assure the people of Eastern Nagaland that both the Central and State Governments are keen and committed, not only to continue these special measures, but to do even more. Our aim is to uplift these backward regions at par with the rest of the State, and at the earliest possible time. Meanwhile, let us also commit ourselves to resolve any grievances through dialogue and understanding in the true spirit of Naga brotherhood.
Apart from this the Nagaland Chief Minister also touched upon several issues including development, reforms in education and health sectors, youths excelling in sports particularly the recent achievements made by athletes from Nagaland at the National Games 2023 held in Goa, employment generation among others.
