Teachers are said to be the nation builders and providers of knowledge and wisdom, but seems like not so for the students of Naga Bazaar Upper Government Middle School in Nagaland, as the head teacher of the school has been absent for almost two and a half years.

The matter came to light when Kohima Town MLA Dr. Ato was out on Friday inspecting the government-run schools in his constituency. The MLA informed that he will flag the matter before the government.

“I am going to highlight that to the government. I am not the person to take action but there is a concerned department who can take action on them. Let’s see what the government does for the head teacher. I am going to report to the government,” MLA Dr. Ato commented.

MLA Ato also said that two schools that he visited are without power supply and the bathrooms were very shabby, adding that there was no segregation of bathrooms for boys and girls.

He further said that though the PWD government high school has segregated their bathrooms, four bathrooms for almost 400 students was not sufficient.

The MLA, during his visit to various schools, also listened to the grievances faced by the schools and said that most of the schools’ requirements are extension of classrooms and bathrooms.

He highlighted that most of the schools did not have playground facilities, not even for basketball.
He also stressed that under his constituency there is not a single government-run higher secondary school, to which he said he will pressurize the government.

The MLA hoped for a higher secondary school with both Arts and Science streams.

The MLA pointed out that all over Nagaland, especially in the education and Medical sectors, the centre is there but it lacks proper facilities.

He said the only way to improve the infrastructure was if the government could club some of the middle schools into one proper high school.

As a representative of the people of his constituency, he said it was his duty to tell the government and make the government take up the matter.

Further, the MLA lauded the PWD high school for maintaining their performance over the years in the matriculation exams.

So far, the MLA has visited Naga Bazaar Lower Government Primary School, Naga Bazaar Upper GMS, Sub Health Centre Naga Bazaar, PWD GHS, D’ Block GPS, and PWD Sub Centre.

The MLA also intends to visit all other schools and sub-health centres within his constituency.
