Over 11,010 Bihu dancers or ‘nasonis’ and drummers or ‘dhuliyas’ will show their magic at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati this evening

The countdown has begun. Assam is all set to create a world record. The northeastern state of India is set to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by showing the world its signature dance form – Bihu. Over 11,010 Bihu dancers or ‘nasonis’ and drummers or ‘dhuliyas’ will show their magic at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati this evening.

The artistes who have come from different parts of the state will be performing for an hour between 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. This is the first time ever that 11,010 dancers (8,000) and drummers (3,000) would be performing Bihu, Assam’s biggest and most loved festival and dance form, at one location.

The attempt to create a Guinness Record is the dream project of Assam’s dynamic and visionary Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. His vision is to propel Bihu onto the global stage and get Bihu recognized as an Indian dance form.

Earlier, on Wednesday Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that it will be an attempt to try to create the Guinness Record in two categories: one for Bihu dance and the other one for Dhol (the Bihu drum).

The Chief Minister informed that though earlier it was planned to have the performance and achieve the feat on April 14 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Assam government decided to prepone it by a day and hold the performance today (Thursday) so that if the Guinness Record is accomplished on Thursday, authorities of the Guinness Book of World Records would hand over the certificate to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. PM Modi will then be hand over the Guinness Record certificate to the people of Assam.

It may be mentioned that the state government has decided to provide Rs 25,000 each to all the Bihu dancers and Dhuliyas (Drummers) along with the master trainers who will perform for the mega bihu event for the Guinness World Record.

The ambitious Assam CM also said that he next plans to create another record with 25,000 Bihu dancers and drummers.
