The Cybercrime Branch of the Tamil Nadu Police apprehended four cybercriminals in Guwahati today for their involvement in a major digital fraud.
The arrestees were involved in a digital arrest scam and had duped an individual of Rs 3.2 crore.
Those apprehended individuals have been identified as Dhrubajyoti Mazumder (24), Swaraj Pradhan (22), Prashant Giri (20) and Pranjal Hazarika (28).
While one of the criminals is from Guwahati, the others hail from Sonitpur and Sribhumi. After their arrest, the accused were brought to the Paltan Bazar police station for safekeeping.
This bust highlights the growing issue of cybercrime in the region.
Earlier this month, Guwahati police dismantled another cybercrime ring, arresting seven individuals involved in opening fraudulent bank accounts and swindling millions from unsuspecting victims. The accused, who operated from a hotel in the Six Mile area, had defrauded numerous people across various cities.
With cybercrime cases on the rise, law enforcement agencies are increasingly focused on tackling this menace.
The arrest of these criminals underscores the ongoing efforts to curb digital fraud and bring perpetrators to justice.
