A high-level team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today held its third round of talks with the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) ahead of the Assembly elections in the state and Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Nagaland tomorrow.

The 17 member ENPO delegation led by its President Tsapikiu Sangtam and the three-member committee constituted by the MHA headed by the adviser (North East) A.K. Mishra along with two members — Dr Mandeep Singh, Joint Director, Intelligence Bureau and A.K. Dhayani, Director, (North East Division, MHA) held the meeting in Guwahati, Assam.

As per sources, the meeting was brief and fruitful and things are going on the right track.

Sources said that discussions for a separate Statehood of the Eastern Nagas are ongoing and the Government of India have also shared their part of difficulties.

Talks will soon resume as both parties are working to reach a logical conclusion.

The apex body of seven Easterm Nagaland tribes will also call a public meeting after the ENPO team returns to Nagaland.

“Meanwhile, Both the parties will use their mind and wisdom to come to a logical conclusion,” sources added.

Today’s meeting was held in the backdrop of Co-chairman of the opposition-less UDA in Nagaland Azo Neinu saying on Tuesday that the MHA team that visited the state recently had ruled out the creation of a separate Frontier Nagaland as demanded by ENPO and subsequently, the Nagaland Cabinet on Tuesday had appealed the ENPO to review their demand for separate statehood in the interest of all the Nagas as a whole.
