In a remarkable act of bravery, Major Vishavdeep Singh Attri, an army officer stationed at Rangapahar Military Station, Nagaland, saved the lives of two young boys who were in danger of drowning in the Dhansari River yesterday.
The incident unfolded in the afternoon when the two boys, aged 5 and 6, were playing near the riverbank and accidentally fell into the river. Though the children were struggling to stay afloat, they were quickly pulled downstream by the strong currents.
Hearing the desperate cries for help from a woman and the boys, Major Attri, who was passing by, immediately sprang into action. His Army instincts kicked in as he dived into the river despite the strong current. He battled the current and dense vegetation in the river to reach the drowing children.
Major Attri successfully brought both boys back to the shore. Fortunately, they suffered no serious injuries and were soon reunited with their grateful families.
Local residents and eyewitnesses praised Major Attri for his heroism and quick thinking, which averted what could have been a tragic incident.
