Naga Students’ Federation Demands Prosecution Sanction Against Para SF Personnel Involved in Oting Incident, Writes to Home Minister Amit Shah
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding prosecution sanction against the Para SF personnel involved in Oting incident of 2021.
The NSF reaction comes in the wake of the recent Supreme Court ruling closing criminal proceedings against 30 Army personnel in connection with the December 4, 2021 Oting incident in Nagaland’s Mon district in which 14 people were killed.
The NSF said that the Special Investigation Team or SIT formed by the Nagaland Government had filed a charge sheet naming 30 members of the 21 Para (SF), based on irrefutable evidence.
In the wake of the developments, the NSF demanded prosecution sanction against the accused personnel of the 21 Para (SF) involved in the Oting incident and immediate revocation of AFSPA from Nagaland and the Northeast.
The NSF said that if these demands are not addressed, the federation will be forced to launch a democratic agitation.
The Supreme Court had on Tuesday closed all further proceedings in pursuance of the FIR filed against 30 army personnel accused in the December 2021 incident which left over a dozen civilians killed.
The Supreme Court bench said that as Nagaland is a state where the AFSPA is in operation, sanction from the competent authority was necessary under section 6 of the Act to prosecute the armed forces personnel. The Centre had rejected the grant of prosecution sanction against the personnel on February 28, 2023.
