Tripura: TET Qualified Teacher Aspirants Stages Protest Outside CM’s House Demanding Immediate Appointment In Schools

The protest has brought the issue back into the spotlight, putting pressure on the administration to address the demands of the TET-qualified candidates.
Hundreds of teacher aspirants who qualified the Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) in 2022 staged a protest outside the residence of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday, demanding immediate recruitment.
The protesters frustrated by the two-year delay in appointments despite hundreds of vacancies in government-run schools, gheraoed the Chief Minister’s residence in Agartala.
The demonstrators raised slogans questioning why the state government, led by Saha, who also holds the portfolio of Education Minister, has not yet recruited TET-qualified candidates.
They pointed out that the acute shortage of teachers in government schools has severely impacted the quality of education in the state.
The protesters also expressed concerns that the delay in appointments is causing many candidates to surpass the maximum age limit, effectively disqualifying them from securing government teaching jobs despite successfully clearing the qualifying test.
One of the protestors stated, “Since 2022, we have repeatedly sought appointments with the Chief Minister to address our concerns, but we have never been granted a meeting. The state government continues to ignore our plight.”
The protest, which escalated as the aspirants surrounded the CM’s residence, was swiftly handled by the police. The demonstrators were arrested, and the area was cleared.
As per official records, around 40,000 candidates appeared for the TET in 2022, but only 261 managed to qualify. However, despite the successful candidates fulfilling the requirements, none of them has been recruited to date.
The prolonged inaction has left the qualified aspirants disheartened, raising serious concerns over the state government’s handling of teacher recruitment and the worsening faculty shortage in schools.
The protest has brought the issue back into the spotlight, putting pressure on the administration to address the demands of the TET-qualified candidates.
