One Should’t Underestimate Congress, It May Bounce Back: Meghalaya TMC President Charles Pyngrope

Irrespective of the number of seats Congress have in the Assembly, the vote share it has is very high, said Pyngrope.

Meghalaya TMC president Charles Pyngrope has said that the Congress should not be underestimated despite currently holding only one seat in the State Assembly.

Highlighting that the party has a substantial vote share, Charles Pyngrope suggested that Congress could make a strong comeback.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Pyngrope said, “Irrespective of the number of seats Congress have in the Assembly, the vote share it has is very high. I have not gone through the vote share of the political paries in the Assembly elections of 2023, but one can not underestimate Congress because they can bounce back.”

However, Pyngrope’s statements pertaining to the status of the grand old party has assumed a lot of significance since the Meghalaya TMC president was once a member of the Congress.

Refuting claims made by NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who recently predicted that Congress would be “wiped out” from Meghalaya, Pyngrope defended his former party.

Pyngrope emphasized that Congress has not lost its footing in the state.

This comes after the recent merger of three Congress MLAs—Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, Charles Marngar, and Gabriel Wahlang with the National People’s Party (NPP) on August 19.
