Nagaland ULB Polls 2024: 79 candidates withdraw nominations

The move comes amid the ENPO's resolution to abstain from all state and central polls till the time its demands are met.

With just 5 days left for the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in Nagaland scheduled for June 26, 2024, as many as 79 candidates have withdrawn their candidatures today.

79 candidates withdrew from the ULB elections, including 61 in ENPO areas.

The move comes amid the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO’s) resolution to abstain from all state and central polls till the time its demands are met.

Now, a total of 523 candidates for 278 wards remain in the fray for the upcoming ULB elections. A total of 670 nominations were filed out of which 4 were rejected, 79 candidates withdrew their nominations and 64 candidates were declared winners unopposed, said State Election Commissioner, T John Longkumer.

Also, 238 females had filed their nominations for the 3 municipal and 36 town councils spread throughout the state, including the Eastern Nagaland areas.

For 278 wards there are 530 polling stations and the polling will begin at 7:30 am till 4:00 pm however, if people are still in the queue to vote after 4:00 pm, the voting process will be extended, State Election Commissioner, T John Longkumer added.

ULB elections are being held after a gap of 20 years. This is the first time that the municipal elections will have 33% reservation for women.
