First Published: 11th May, 2024 17:28 IST

Fuel supply to Mizoram has been affected due to damage of rail tracks in the Lumding-Badarpur sector in Assam.

The Mizoram Government has warned strong action against hoarders and those indulging in black marketing of petrol and diesel, who are seemingly taking undue advantage of the prevalent fuel scenario in the state.

Worth mentioning, Mizoram is presently facing a shortage of petroluem owing to damage to rail tracks in the Lumding-Badarpur sector in Assam.

Mizoram Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister B.Lalchhanzova informed that police personnel and employees of the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department, under the supervision of the officials of the Aizawl district deputy commissioner, will conduct an on-the-spot inspection of the petrol pumps. Deputy Commissioners of the other 10 districts are also instructed to conduct the same inspection at their respective district headquarters.

The minister appealed to the general public to refrain from panic buying and stick to their daily requirements of petroleum during these days of temporary scarcity.

The Mizoram Food and Civil Supplies department had issued an order for rationing of Petroleum Oil and Lubricants (POL) on May 2, 2024 and people were seen queuing up at petrol pumps to fill up their vehicles. The order for rationing of fuel was cancelled on May 6, 2024.

The Mizoram Government has informed that due to derailment of goods train between Badarpur and Lumding, Indian Oil Corporation Limited could not supply fuel at Monirbond depot; but assured that Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum oil tankers are continuing their supply.
