Arunachal LS Polls 2024: 3 GSP leaders quit, join Cong to support party’s Arunachal West candidate Nabam Tuki

The GSP leaders who quit the party are--Sorang Takap, President of the Pip-Sorang Block; Dora Gandhi, President of the Tarak-Lendi Block, and Shri Sartam Punung, President of the Tali Block

With barely 10 days left for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Arunachal Pradesh, as many as 3 leaders of the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) have resigned from the party and joined Congress today.

With this, the GSP has now 5 Block presidents left.

The GSP leaders who quit the party are–Sorang Takap, President of the Pip-Sorang Block; Dora Gandhi, President of the Tarak-Lendi Block, and Shri Sartam Punung, President of the Tali Block.

They have submitted their resignation to party president Likha Tagu, citing moral grounds.

Soon, after resigning from the party, they joined the Congress in a ceremony held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in Itanagar in the presence of State Congress general secretary Kon Jirjo.

Speaking to the media, they stated that they have joined the Congress to extend support to former Chief Minister and party president Nabam Tuki, who is contesting for Arunachal Pradesh West constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

They said, “If any party can save Arunachal Pradesh, then it is Congress. Since Nabam Tuki is contesting the Lok Sabha election, we need to make sure that he wins, so that he can raise the problems faced by the people of the state in the parliament as an MP.”

“Nabam Tuki is the most experienced and senior politician of Arunachal Pradesh. During his tenure as Chief Minister, the state has witnessed a remarkable development. He is also free of corruption. It is high time that people of the state come together and extend support to him,” they added.

Meanwhile, Kon Jirjo said that of the total 8 Block Presidents of GSP, 3 joined Congress today, and others might also join the party soon.”

Polling for the 50 assembly seats and 2 Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh will be held on April 19 and results will for the Assembly polls will be declared on June 2 and for the LS polls on June 4.

The ruling BJP has won 10 seats unopposed to the 60-member Arunachal Assembly.
