The letter further urged the Governor to take necessary action to enable ZPM to form the new Executive Committee.
Members of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) met the Governor of Mizoram today to formally stake their claim to form the council’s government. However, political uncertainty looms large as ZPM has only managed to secure the support of half of the 20-member council, with the BJP and MNF still holding significant influence.
In a formal letter submitted to the Governor, Mohan Chakma, an elected Member of District Council (MDC) from the 20-Parva MDC Constituency, asserted ZPM’s right to lead the council. The letter stated, “On account of recent political developments in the 11th Chakma Autonomous District Council, the Zoram People’s Movement now holds the support of 10 MDCs, while the BJP has 9 MDCs and the MNF has 1 MDC. As the single largest legislative party in the council, I, Mohan Chakma, stake my claim to be appointed as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) under Rule 22(2) of the CADC (Constitution, Conduct of Business, etc.) Rules, 2002.”
The letter further urged the Governor to take necessary action to enable ZPM to form the new Executive Committee.
The ZPM Legislature Party convened a meeting to select its new leadership following the ousting of the incumbent Chief Executive Member through a no-confidence motion passed during the fourth sitting of the Winter Session on December 11, 2024. The meeting was presided over by Doymoy Daveng Chakma, MDC, who expressed his gratitude to the members for their participation and called for discussions on the selection of a new House Leader.
After thorough deliberation, the ZPM Legislature Party unanimously elected its leadership structure as follows:
Mohan Chakma, MDC – Leader
Doymoy Daveng Chakma, MDC – Deputy Leader
Amit Bayan Chakma, MDC – Treasurer
Santosh Chakma, MDC – Secretary
Parimal Chakma, MDC – Member
Supreme Raj Chakma, MDC – Member
Sanjeev Chakma, MDC – Member
Kali Kumar Tongchangya, MDC – Member
Hiranand Tongchangya, MDC – Member
Ajoy Kumar Chakma, MDC – Member
