In a massive breakthrough, Tirap Police in Arunachal Pradesh have identified the mastermind who planned the gruesome assassination of former Khonsa West MLA Yumsen Matey on December 16.

Led by SP Rahul Gupta, the Tirap Police Investigation Team has identified Self-styled Brigadier Tonglu Akham Hasik of the banned militant outfit NSCN (K-YA), as the mastermind behind the killing of Matey.

Tirap Police has announced a cash reward of Rs 2.5 lakhs for providing credible information on the whereabouts of the hardcore militant.

Aditionally, in order to nab Tonglu Akham Hasik as early as possible, police have also posted posters with pictures of him and shared the same on all social media platforms.

Moreover, even as the State government has decided to hand over Yumsem Matey’s murder case to National Investigation Agency (NIA) to ensure a meticulous and thorough investigation, Tirap Police has stepped up it’s investigation into the gruesome assassination.

Yumsen Matey was killed on December 16 near Raho village under Lazu Police Station in Tirap.

As per reports, Matey and those accompanying him were intercepted by a man when they were on the way to Raho.

The man reportedly sought a private meeting with Matey and took him towards a hill.

The workers who were waiting for Matey heard a gunshot after sometime. Later Matey was found dead.

Matey was an aspirant for the upcoming 2024 Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections from Khonsa West constituency in Tirap district.
He was the MLA from the constituency between 2009 and 2014.

Hailing from Ollo community of Lazu village, Matey was elected as MLA from Khonsa West assembly constituency on a Congress ticket in 2009.

He served as parliamentary secretary for Department of Women and Child Development, Social Welfare, Social Justice and Tribal Affairs, and Department of Tirap, Changlang and Longding.

Before entering politics, he served as district adult education officer in Changlang district. In 2015, Matey joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Earlier, in May 2019, then sitting MLA of Khonsa West, Tirong Aboh was also killed by unknown assailants in Tirap.
