The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-K-YA) outfit has claimed responsibility for the brutal killing of former Khonsa West MLA Yumsen Matey.

In a statement issued, the outfit said that Matey has been targetted due to alleged anti-NSCN activities. Matey was shot dead on December 16th near Raho village in Tirap.

“He was found guilty of masterminding Anti-NSCN propagandas and slogans in Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh. He conspired against the NSCN/GPRN and allowed himself to be the tool of the adversaries. This act is no less than treason to his own people and to the ongoing Naga national struggle”, the statement said.

“For the last few years, the NSCN/GPRN exercise maximum patience by overlooking his misdeeds as to avoid unwanted situation in the interest of the Naga public. However, despite heavy warnings, he continues his illegal activities and went overboard to provoke and compelled the NSCN/GPRN to take this extreme step”, statement added.

Matey along with his driver and two others were heading towards the Dadam area from Khonsa when in between they diverted their route to Raho.

The incident took place shortly afterwards when he was taken towards a nearby forest by some men on some pretext and shot dead.

The Arunachal Government has already requested for an NIA investigation in the case.
