World’s largest statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan to be unveiled in January 2024: Assam CM

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently visited Ghaziabad to review the ongoing construction of the World’s largest statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan. The colossal statue, once completed, will be installed in Jorhat in January 2024, adding a remarkable landmark to the region’s cultural heritage.

Expressing his pride, Chief Minister Sarma took to Twitter to announce the progress of the ambitious project and shared that veteran sculptor and Padma Bhushan awardee Ram Sutar is overseeing the construction.

“Today I reviewed the progress of the World’s largest statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan currently being built in Ghaziabad. We are honoured that veteran sculptor & Padma Bhushan awardee, respected Ram Sutar ji is overseeing this effort. He has crafted some of the most iconic monuments in the country including the Statue of Unity”, tweets CM Sarma

The construction of the world’s largest statue of Lachit Barphukan, a celebrated Ahom general, is being undertaken at Ram Sutar’s studio in Ghaziabad. Ram Sutar is widely recognized for his masterful craftsmanship, having created some of the country’s most iconic monuments, including the renowned Statue of Unity.

The statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan is a tribute to his leadership and valour during the historic Battle of Saraighat in 1671. Lachit Barphukan played a pivotal role in defending the Ahom kingdom against the mighty Mughal forces, showcasing unwavering determination and strategic prowess.
