Assam’s Kapil Sonowal bags Gold medal in Youth Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships

Assam’s weightlifter Kapil Sonowal emerged victorious in the Men’s 102kg Youth category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2023, held in Noida.
Sonowal showcased his prowess by lifting a staggering total of 269kg. His remarkable feat consisted of 117kg snatch and 152kg clean and jerk.
Along with Sonowal, Vanshita Verma also earned the gold medal in the women’s 81kg weight Junior category. Vanshita Verma won the women’s 81kg division with a combined lift of 205kg, defeating Emma Mccready of Wales, who lifted 204kg.
