Fmr Assam Education Minister Thaneswar Boro dies at 86

Boro's body will be taken to his hometown Rangia where his last rites will be performed later today.

Former Assam Education and Revenue Minister, Thaneswar Boro passed away today after a prolonged heart-related ailment. He was 86. 

Boro, who was also former president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) breathed his last at around 7 AM today at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he was receiving treatment. 

Boro was hospitalised at a local hospital in Rangia after his health deteriorated on May 9. He was later shifted to the GMCH after his health deteriorated.  

Boro’s body will be taken to his hometown Rangia where his last rites will be performed later today. 

He is survived by his daughter. 

The former Minister was suffering from the illness for a long time. Last year, the state government announced that it would provide all kinds of medical assistance to him. 

Boro was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly thrice from the Rangia Assembly constituency in 1985 (as Independent candidate), 1991 and 1996 (as an AGP candidate).
