The Wancho Indigenous Sports Competition organised by the Wancho Cultural Society and Oriah Festival Celebration Committee in association with the Longding Battalion of Assam Rifles held in Kanubari town of Arunachal’s Longding District yesterday.
As per reports, a total of 289 participants from 15 villages of Kanubari and Lawnu Block participated in the Competition.
The villagers turned up in large numbers in traditional Wancho attire to participate and witness the sports events which included Zubey or Tug of War, Ro-Phak Rik or Bamboo Race, Zuphat or High Jump among others.

Moreover, a free medical and dental camp was also organised by the Longding Battalion Assam Rifles on the sidelines of the sports competition to help as many people as possible.
It may be mentioned that as per a recent Constitutional Amendment, the term “Any Other Naga Tribe” has been deleted and amended with the term Wancho in the Constitution with the Schedule Tribes Order (Amendment) Act, 2021. With this new amendment, the Wanchos are swelling with pride because of this recognition to their identity.
CSO leaders, local village leaders, and other government officials from Longding and Kanubari attended the event.
