In a well-planned operation executed by Indian Army Intelligence agencies at Meghalaya-Assam-Bangladesh Border, dreaded hardcore ULFA(I) leader, SS Col Drishti Rajkhowa, along with four accomplices, surrendered on Wednesday evening.

Drishti Rajkhowa, who is the top aide of the outfit’s Commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah surrendered before army authorities in Meghalaya.

The security forces have been on the hunt for Rajkhowa for years now and this development comes as a big breakthrough at a time when the centre is trying to bring the ULFA(I) too to the negotiating table

Rajkhowa, who is second in command to Paresh Barua in the ULFA(I)’s military hierarchy has been involved in active insurgent activities along the Assam-Bangladesh-Myanmar border and had become a headache for the security forces.

Rajkhowa has been pretty active in the Meghalaya’s Garo Hills region where, according to reports, he was trying to activate dormant militant groups.

As per reports, Rajkhowa and his group of ultras, who are mostly based in Bangladesh, occasionally cross over to the Indian side using South Garo Hills as the transit route.
