Tripura CM Manik Saha inaugurates National School Games of Judo in Agartala

350 delegates and athletes representing 27 states are participating in the 4-day event
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the 68th National School Games of Judo (under-17 girls) at the NSRCC in Agartala on Thursday. The prestigious event, organized by the Tripura Sports Council under the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, has drawn participation from 350 delegates and athletes representing 27 states across India.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Olympian gymnast Dipa Karmakar, and other senior officials.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Saha emphasized the importance of sports in building physical and mental resilience.
He said, “Sports not only promote fitness but also embody values like perseverance, respect, and mutual support. True strength lies in overcoming challenges, adapting to situations, and showing respect to opponents.”
Highlighting judo’s growing popularity in Tripura, CM Saha informed that the Youth Affairs and Sports Department has established six judo coaching centers across the state, encouraging young athletes to excel.
He added that the state government is prioritizing sports infrastructure development to keep the youth fit, disciplined, and away from bad habits like drug addiction.
Participants expressed that judo is getting popular among youths as alongwith physical strength it also helps in gaining mental strength.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy welcomed the participants and highlighted the rapid improvement in sports infrastructure in Tripura.
He announced that discussions are underway with higher authorities to host the North East Olympic Games 2025 in the state.
The Minister further informed that next week, the state government will host the Khelo Tripura Para Games, where 400 physically challenged youth will participate. Additionally, around 1000 individuals with over 60% physical disability will be provided monthly pensions as part of the state’s commitment to inclusivity and welfare.
The event marks a significant step in promoting sports culture in Tripura and fostering opportunities for young athletes to showcase their talent on a national platform.
