BFI Secy Stopping Lovlina, Other Assam Boxers From Competing in Nationals: BFI Chief

Singh stated that Assam officials have discouraged players from participating in the championships.
Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh has alleged that Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain is being pressured to withdraw from the upcoming National Championships. Singh claimed that the recently suspended BFI Secretary General Hemanta Kalita is behind the move.
During an emergency press conference, Singh revealed that Borgohain, who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in the 69kg category, is eager to participate in the domestic event starting Thursday in Greater Noida. However, Kalita allegedly urged her to withdraw.
Kalita, recently found guilty of financial mismanagement in an inquiry led by former Delhi High Court judge Sudhir Kumar Jain, holds a position in Assam’s boxing association. Singh stated that Assam officials have discouraged players from participating in the championships.
“Lovlina has recorded a video of support, but she has been asked not to participate by Hemanta Kalita. Since she owes a lot to Assam boxing, she is reconsidering her decision,” Singh added.
Kalita has yet to respond to the accusations. Notably, his nomination for the upcoming BFI presidential elections was rejected due to the mandatory cooling-off period required after serving two terms in different roles.
