The situation in Dikom tea estate in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district has improved with the formation of a peace committee after a meeting was held under the aegis of ATTSA

The situation in Dikom tea estate in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district has improved with the formation of a peace committee after a meeting was held under the aegis of ATTSA and ACMS at the Puja field of the garden today.

The meeting demanded that the garden management should lift the lock out immediately which was imposed this morning by the manager of the garden in anticipation of further breakdown in law and order.

Leaders of the organisations also demanded that as promised by the manager adequate compensation should be given to the next of kin of the dead as per Workmen Compensation Act and other existing laws.

It is learnt that the leaders will be taking up the matter with the labour department for an early solution.

Earlier, the workers in the tea estate had resorted to a sudden and indefinite cease work following the death of a woman worker and injury of 3 others due after a tree fell on Monday evening.

The agitated workers had alleged that the patient died owing to utter negligence of the doctor of the tea estate as it failed to provide immediate ambulance service to the injured, despite the garden having two ambulances.

The agitated workers also manhandled the doctor, who has suffered multiple injuries and is now undergoing treatment. Later on, police rushed to the spot to control the situation.

The garden management has announced Rs. 1 lakh as compensation for the next of kin of the deceased.
