Sikkim Elections 2024: Home voting kick starts in Gangtok, 265 voters cast their ballots

The constituencies covered by Home Voting team under Gangtok district include Tumen Lingee Khamdong-Singtam, Shyari, Martam-Rumtek, Upper Tadong, Arithang, Gangtok and Upper Burtuk.

The Home voting for the Sikkim elections 2024 kickstarts in Gantok on Froiday. On the first day of Home Voting, a total of 265 home voters cast their votes through postal ballots the district.

The Election Commission of India has introduced the “Vote-from-Home” option through postal ballots, specifically targeting two distinct voter groups: individuals aged 85 years and older, and persons with disabilities with a minimum disability rating of 40 percent.

This proactive initiative by the ECI aims to enhance inclusivity within the electoral process and ensure that every eligible citizen can exercise their inherent right to vote. This approach not only empowers individuals facing physical limitations or advanced age to participate in the electoral process but also reaffirms the commitment to uphold democratic principles of representation and inclusion.

Moreover, it assures that the voices and preferences of these individuals are properly acknowledged and integrated into the electoral results.

The constituencies covered by Home Voting team under Gangtok district include Tumen Lingee Khamdong-Singtam, Shyari, Martam-Rumtek, Upper Tadong, Arithang, Gangtok and Upper Burtuk.

It is to be mentioned that the Himalayan state Sikkim will go for polls for the lone Lok Sabha seat and 32 seats of the state legislative assembly of Sikkim in the first phase on April 19. While, Counting of votes for the state assembly will be held on the June 2 and  that of the lone Lok Sabha seat will be held on the June 4.
