Sikkim celebrated the annual Kagyad Dance festival at Tsuklakhang Palace in Gangtok with traditional fervor on Sunday.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended greetings on the occasion of the festival.
CM Tamang said, “On this auspicious occasion of the Kagyed Dance Festival, I extend my warmest greetings to the people of Sikkim. May the masked monks’ performances symbolize the victory over negativity and inspire a year of peace and prosperity. Let us honour the cultural heritage of our festivals with mutual respect and unity.”
“Wishing everyone enduring happiness, love, and the dawn of new opportunities in our lives,” he added.
The festival, which falls on the 28th and 29th day of the 10th month in the Tibetan calendar, is dedicated to the eight Tantrik deities, commonly known as Kagyad.
Monks performed intricate dances and chanted prayers in honor of these deities, seeking their blessings for protection from evil forces, good health, and prosperity. The ritualistic dances, characterized by elaborate masks and costumes, captivated attendees, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
Devotees and visitors gathered to witness this significant cultural event, which also included offerings and prayers at various monasteries across Sikkim. The festival not only upholds the spiritual traditions of the region but also serves as a reminder of Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage.
