Tapi Mra and his aide Niku Dao had gone missing on Aug 17, 2022 while attempting to scale Mt Khyarii Satam in East Kameng district
The search operation for Arunachal mountaineer Tapi Mra and his aide Niku Dao has resumed after a gap of nine months. The operation is being carried out by Tapi’s sister Yatok Mra Nilo with the help of some porters and mountaineer Tame Bagang.
Yatok lamented the lack of support from the government in conducting the search operation. Short on funds, Yatok, speaking exclusively to Northeast Live said that the search was to begin on July 1 but was delayed due to lack of funds and proper logistics to carry out a search operation in such difficult terrain.
She said that at 60 porters are needed but they are managing with 25 because of fund shortage.
Yatok said, “Actually nearly 60 porters are needed but due to unavailability of funds we could send only 25 porters. We did not get the funds whatever was supposed to be released by the government.”
The first advance search team has proceeded from Veo village towards Saria village on their way to Mt Khyarii Satam on Monday. The advance team comprising of 25 porters is proceeding under the supervision of Tame Bagang. The porters are transporting ration and other basic equipment up to the base camp of Khyarii Satam.
It may be mentioned here that Mra and Dao went missing on August 17 August, 2022 while attempting to scale Mt Khyarii Satam in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Indian Army had called off the search operation on September 21, 2022 citing poor visibility and inclement weather.
