As the flood scenario in Assam has worsened in the past 24 hours. As many as 749 villages in 17 districts of the State has been hit by the second wave of floods.
The NDRF and the SDRF personnel have been deployed in the affected districts. Altogether, 721 marooned people have been rescued so far by the NDRF and SDRF personnel.
The flood-hit districts include – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat and Dibrugarh.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday reviewed the flood situation in the State through video conferencing with Deputy Commissioners and district level senior officers and asked them to remain fully alert and prepared to tackle floods.
The rising Subansiri river has inundated more than 60 villages in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. The villages that have been affected by flood include Kanduli, Mudoibeel, Kuhiyarbari in Lakhimpur.
Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc at Lahorighat in Assam’s Morigaon district. The people of the area have been forced to move to safer places as their houses have been flooded, making it impossible for them to stay inside.
People are taking shelter on embankments. Flood has also swept away most of the arterial roads in the area.
The rising water level of Brahmaputra has also affected Assam’s Majuli, throwing normal life out of gear. The ferry service in Majuli remain suspended due to the deluge.
Over 35 villages of the river island in under the grip of flood. The suspension of 108 ambulance services has added to the flood woes.
Meanwhile, in Tinsukia the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level mark. At least villages have been submerged in the flood waters in Chabua.
