POCSO Convict Hazrat Ali Escapes from Kokrajhar Jail

The accused, identified as Hazrat Ali, had been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

In a dramatic incident, a man convicted under the POCSO Act escaped from Kokrajhar District Jail on March 16 at around 1:30 pm.

The accused, identified as Hazrat Ali, had been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

Sources said Ali managed to escape when the jail authorities brought him out of his cell along with four other inmates for some work.

Taking advantage of the situation, Ali fled the jail premises, raising serious questions about the security arrangements.

Following the escape, authorities have launched a massive search operation to trace the convict. Meanwhile, jail superintendent Rabiram Ingti is likely to face suspension over the security lapse. Officials are investigating how Ali managed to escape despite being under surveillance.

Further details are awaited as the search operation continues.
