Over 1100 people from Violence- hit Manipur take shelter in Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the authorities to provide food and other amenities to the displaced people taking shelter in the district

Amid the unrest in Manipur, thousands of people have fled to Assam and taken shelter in Lakhipur constituency under Cachar district.

The Cachar district administration has set up six relief camps for the Manipuris at various schools and other buildings in Lakhipur and Jirighat.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the authorities to provide food and other amenities to the displaced people taking shelter in the district.

Speaking to Northeast Live, SP Cachar Numal Mahatta informed that they are carrying out patrolling in the area to ensure the security of the people.

So far, approximately 1100 people are taking shelter in Assam.

The Cachar SP has appealed to the people to not believe any kind of rumour and said that strict action will be taken against the rumor mongers.

Meanwhile, the people who took shelter said that they are feeling safe in Assam and are getting all the essentials provided by the administration.
