NPP National President Conrad Sangma expelled NPP’s Manipur unit president Thangminlen Kipgen and others for allegedly going against the constitution of the party.

Stating that the former president of the Manipur State unit Thangminlen Kipgen had acted against the constitution of the party by going ahead with the party’s internal elections and announcing it, NPP National president Conrad Sangma said that a show cause notice was issued to them and they were informed that they should not go ahead with the elections as it was not as per the constitution of the NPP.

However, despite the warning given in writing, the NPP leaders led by Kipgen went ahead with the elections.

Sangma said, amounted to violation of the party’s constitution and therefore there was no option left but to expel Kipen and others involved.

Sangma informed that in order to ensure that the office continues, the NPP has appointed N Khaysi who is also the tribal Affairs Minister in the N Biren Singh-led government as the interim president. He added that elections to the State unit will take place soon.
