In a major step toward improving road connectivity, the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) has started road widening and maintenance work on National Highway 10 (NH10) after it suffered extensive damage from heavy rainfall, landslides, and river inundation. NHIDCL has taken over the crucial Sevok to Rangpo stretch from the Public Works Department (PWD) of West Bengal, aiming to restore and strengthen this important route.

The road widening and maintenance project is expected to improve travel conditions and boost trade and tourism in the region. With NHIDCL overseeing the work, faster progress and higher-quality infrastructure are anticipated, addressing long-standing concerns of both residents and businesses.

Residents and transporters have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the improved road conditions will lead to fewer disruptions and better connectivity with neighboring states. The project highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and supporting economic growth in Sikkim.

NH10, which serves as Sikkim’s main link to the rest of India, has long been vulnerable to natural disasters, frequently causing travel disruptions and economic setbacks. The new project aims to make the highway more resilient to such challenges, ensuring smoother and safer travel for commuters and transporters.
