Along with the rest of the country, the Northeastern states are also celebrating the 73rd Republic Day today with vigour and patriotic fervour.

In Assam, Republic Day celebrations are all being held under strict covid protocols.

All official functions are seeing limited attendance while being demarcated into different levels.

Only double vaccinated people would be attending the programmes today.

Even the police and security personnel who would be taking part in the ceremonial parades would be fully vaccinated.

Also, no school children would be taking part in the officials’ programmes this year due to the Covid scenario.

The day’s official programme began with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visiting the Shraddhanjali Kanan in Guwahati where he paid tributes to martyrs.

Governor Jagdish Mukhi unfurled the tri-colour in presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati in Veterinary College Ground in Khanapara.

Governor Mukhi also inspected the Republic Day parade before addressing the gathering.

Meanwhile, CM Sarma called this particular Republic Day significant while stating that for the first time in decades, no militant outfit has called for a boycott of Republic Day in Assam.

In Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma unfurled the tri-colour at the Polo Grounds in Shillong as Governor Satya Pal Malik was unable to attend the celebrations.

CM Conrad Sangma also inspected the parade before highlighting the state government’s development initiatives on the occasion of the country’s 73rd Republic Day.

A flypast was also conducted by the Indian Air Force on the occasion. Contingents of Gorkha Rifles, CRPF, BSF and Meghalaya Police took part in the Republic Day parade in Shillong.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the official function is being held at the state capital Itanagar.

Governor Brigadier BD Mishra unfurled the tri-colour and inspected the parade at the IG Park. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also attended the celebrations.

In Manipur, Governor La Ganeshan unfurled the tricolour at the Kangla Fort.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only state police and other security forces contingents took part in the Republic Day Parade and there were no students contingents taking part this time. On the occasion, 11 cops were awarded the police medals by the Governor.

In Tripura capital Agartala, Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya unfurled the tricolour and inspected the parade. Chief Minister Biplab Deb also attended the celebrations.

Meanwhile, in Mizoram, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati unfurled the tri-colour at the AR Ground at Lammual in Aizawl. Chief Minister Zoramthanga also attended the function. Due to the Covid threat, there was no parade this time in Mizoram.
