The Lotha Students’ Union has demanded immediate termination of the accused Professor and set a deadline of 4 days for the VC to act

A faculty member of Nagaland University has been arrested by the Akuluto Police in the Zunheboto district of Nagaland for allegedly physically assaulting a female assistant professor. Condemning the incident, the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has demanded immediate termination of the accused professor and set a deadline of four days for the Vice Chancellor to act.

Professor Dr. Sarat Chandra Yenisetti, a faculty member in the Department of Zoology, allegedly physically assaulted a female assistant professor. The incident occurred on the university premises.

The Zunheboto Women Police have also visited the university to record statements from the victim, and investigations are ongoing.

The LSU decried the assault as a severe breach of professional and ethical conduct. LSU president Lirhonthung E Kithan and Education Secretary Nyanthung M Khuvung expressed outrage, calling the assault a betrayal of trust and a disturbing reflection of rising violence in academic settings. The union emphasized that universities should be safe spaces for learning and personal growth, and such behaviour undermines the integrity of academic institutions.

LSU President stated, “We want the authorities to take action. LSU Union’s demand is to terminate the culprit professor, as this is a repeated act by such a senior professor and we demand that the punishment will be given and hope she gets justice .”

LSU has called for immediate disciplinary action. The union warned that failure to address the matter would lead to legal action and further protests to ensure justice for the victim and a safer environment for all members of the university community. The case has sparked a wider conversation about the need to uphold respect, safety, and accountability of individuals within educational institutions.
