Nagaland secures 5th place in NE Olympic Games 2022; CM Rio Felicitates Athletes

Nagaland won 79 medals, including 18 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 44 bronze medals in the Games

It was a grand success for the 236 athletes of Nagaland at the just concluded 2nd edition of the North East Olympic Games 2022. Nagaland secured the 5th place winning 79 medals – 18 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 44 bronze medals.

The Games concluded on Wednesday in Shillong, Meghalaya. The 236 athletes competed in 17 of 18 disciplines.

Nagaland’s Chief Minister and President of the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), Neiphiu Rio, felicitated the athletes at an event in Kohima, today. The Government had earlier announced that all medal winners would be presented with cash prizes of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 25,000, and Rs. 10,000.

Chief Minister Rio congratulated Team Nagaland and NOA for bringing laurels to the state. He said that Nagaland was affiliated to the Indian Olympic Association after 41 years, and that the state lags behind in sports. He said he has a lot of faith on the state’s youth and their natural talent and abilities.

“Nagaland won 40 medals in the first NE Olympic Games, and we have doubled that in the second game, which shows that if we have the infrastructure and if we support and give the right platform to the youths, they will excel and bring laurels to the state”, said the Chief Minister.
