As the entire country is reeling under a crisis of medical oxygen amid spike in COVID-19 cases, the northeastern state of Nagaland has received three oxygen plants for Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung under the PM Cares Fund.

According to the health department, Nagaland will be setting up 13 oxygen plants across all the districts.

On Wednesday, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom visited the Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima where an oxygen plant is being installed and inspected the progress of the installation work.

After the completion of the oxygen plant at Kohima, installation work will begin in Dimapur and Mokokchung, Phom informed.

The Health Minister said that once the plant is installed and sent for lab test and certification, the oxygen plant will be functional within a weeks time. He added that the remaining districts will also get their respective oxygen plants and construction works are currently underway.

Phom stated that as the number of cases are rising exponentially, the state government is doing its best to take control of the situation. He assured that there is sufficient stock of medical oxygen to combat the disease and the government is trying to mobilize the resources.

The oxygen plant installed at Kohima can generate 4,30,000 litres of oxygen per day and 300 litres per minute.

In view of the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases, night curfew is in effect in Kohima district from today. The curfew will remain in force from 7 pm to 6 am until further notice.
