Nagaland: Advisor Imkong L Imchen hosts Moatsu Festival in Kohima

Moatsu is a festival celeberated by Ao People of Nagaland. It was celebrated in Kohima with colourful display of dances and gaiety.

Senior Politician and Advisor for Information and Public relations, soil and water conversation Imkong L Imchen on Monday hosted the Moatsü Festival Celebrations at his official residence in Kohima today. The celebration was organised by Mangmetong Senso Telongjem Kohima.

Moatsu is a festival celeberated by Ao People of Nagaland. It was celebrated in Kohima with colourful display of dances and gaiety.

The festival is celebrated every year during the month of May specifically from May 1 to 3 to invoke God’s blessings for healthy crops after the sowing is done.

Moatsü is also considered as the festival of community bonding where villagers celebrate their friendships through exchange of gifts, feasting, singing and dancing.

Traditional songs and dances presented by various groups were the other highlights of the Moatsü celebrations which was followed by a traditional Moatsü feast.

Speaking at the Moatsü Celebrations, Advisor, Imkong L. Imchen said that Nagas as a tribal society had lots of rituals and beliefs which in recent times have trickled down to just celebration of one or two major festivals of each tribe.

Imchen however pointed out that it was important to celebrate and exhibit the cultural traits so as to ensure that our unique culture and traditions are not lost. He further added that in a city like Kohima, inhabited by various tribes, the beauty of the Naga society can be witnessed through different tribes exhibiting and showcasing their own unique culture and tradition to one another and co existing in harmony.

Imchen concluded by saying that it was the responsibility of every Naga to exhibit and practice our rich cultural heritage and ensure that it is preserved in the right way for years to come.

Advisor Law & Justice and Land Revenue, T.N. Mannen speaking on behalf of the Ao Legislators, thanked the Mangmetong Senso Telongjem Kohima and his co-legislator Imkong L Imchen for organising and hosting the Moatsu Celebrations 2024.

T.N. Mannen shared in brief the significance of the Moatsü Festival in today’s society and said that festivals are the bedrock of the culture and traditions. Mannen also said that celebration of festivals was a social necessity and urged all to strive towards unity and lead disciplined lives just like our ancestors did.

N. Meren, President Mangmetong Senso Telongjem Kohima welcomed the guests and formally declared the Moatsü Celebrations open while Er. Imnameren Imchen pronounced the vote of thanks.
