With speculations still on over an early solution to the vexed Naga problem, the Neiphiu Rio led government is now preparing to finalize the road ahead in this regard.

The political affairs committee of the government of Nagaland has convened a meeting with the tribal hohos to discuss and deliberate on matters pertaining to the Naga political issue and the ongoing political negotiations apart from the peace talks. The meeting is scheduled to be held on May 11.

It was widely expected to be announced before the Assembly election in March, but that was not to be. Shortly after the election, however, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio claimed the peace accord would be signed soon.

Earlier on April 7 Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju had claimed that sovereignty and “other serious issues” had been dropped from NSCN(IM)’s charter of demands. However, the union minister’s comments drew sharp criticism from the rebel group.
