Days after the Centre announced the extension of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act or AFSPA in Nagaland for another six months, the Naga Hoho has taken strong exception to the move stating that the Government of India should come clear in its approach to the Naga political issue.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Naga Hoho general secretary Elu Ndang said no peace agreement will last if AFSPA is still in force.
Government of India must be clear in its approach towards the Naga issue. The imposition of AFSPA will not bear any good result, he added.
“In the event of any peace agreement while the act is still in force, it will amount to duress and no peace agreement will last. GoI should be clear in its approach,” Ndang said.
He added that the Centre and the Naga political groups have signed several agreements taking into account the peaceful environment in the state. Hence, it was not understood as to why the AFSPA has been extended.
