Upholding the Supreme Court ruling on internet ban in case of Jammu and Kashmir, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday strongly condemned the imposition of CrPC section 144 in Imphal West district of the state, alleging that such imposition is against the spirit of democracy.

Speaking to media persons MPCC vice President and Spokesperson T Mangibabu alleged that the BJP is dictatorial and fascist in nature. He also alleged that this imposition is to suppress the people’s voices.

The Congress also questioned the reason for imposing CrPC 144 and said that it is not proportionate to the current situation.

It may be mentioned that the Restriction under section 144 of CrPC was imposed in the whole area situated within revenue district of Imphal West for a period of two months with effect from December 21, according to an order issued by Imphal West District Magistrate Naorem Praveen Singh.
