Mizoram delegation meets MoS Home Nityanand Rai to discuss issues concerning Myanmar refugees

With specific instructions from Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, a high-level four member team comprising of MPs C Lalrosanga and K Vanlalvena as well as State Planning Board Vice Chairman H Rammawi and MNF Adviser Rosangzuala called on Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai at his office on Friday and discussed issues concerning relief measures for Myanmar refugees in Mizoram.
Also matters relating to formalities for relocation of Assam Rifles to Zokhawsang from their present location were discussed in the meeting.
While ruling out the possibility of deporting these refugees until situation in Myanmar gets back to normal, the team voiced the pressing need to extend necessary help and support to the refugees.
The 4-member delegation requested the central government’s intervention for providing necessary relief measures as well as a more pro-active role and a stronger voice from India in support of people fighting for restoration of democracy in Myanmar.
They also presented measures taken by the state government and readiness of ground preparation with necessary amenities at Zokhawsang for relocation of Assam Rifles and urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to initiate formalities for the Assam Rifles to begin shifting to their new location at the earliest.
