This resolution comes in the wake of the recent killing of 10 armed individuals in Manipur's Jiribam district.
Amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the Mizo Defence League, an organisation that works for the protection of rights of the Zos, has issued a stern ultimatum to the Meitei community residing in Mizoram, demanding that they leave the state by the end of November this year. This resolution comes in the wake of the recent killing of 10 armed individuals in Manipur’s Jiribam district, which has further strained inter-community relations in the region.
The Mizo Defence League, announced this warning during a candlelight vigil in Aizawl yesterday, to pay their respect and show unity among the Zo people. The event saw the participation of leaders from major political parties such as the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and the People’s Conference.
Prominent NGOs like the Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) and the Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO) were also represented. Among those present was MLA Lalmuanpuia Punte, further highlighting the seriousness of the gathering.
Many speakers at the event emphasized the need to safeguard the rights and interests of the Zo community, reiterating their call for Meiteis to leave Mizoram as a step toward maintaining peace and protecting their identity.
