Meghalaya Govt Raises Security Concern Over Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Intrusions From Bangladesh Near Sohra And Shella

The Meghalaya government has expressed serious concerns over recent unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) intrusions from Bangladesh near the border districts of Sohra and Shella. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who oversees the Home and Police departments, confirmed that the state has formally communicated its security concerns to the central government.
Prestone Tynsong said, “This issue is not only the state government alone, but we have already kept it informed with the government of India who is also taking serious note of this. Same way, like the state government, we are doing our job. I have already instructed our DG and Chief Secretary to take the necessary steps, be it a meeting or be it in writing or whatever. From the state government, our responsibility is to make sure that this kind of thing does not happen anymore.”
He further stated, “It is also equally the duty of the central government to take it off with the government of Bangladesh. As far as law order is concerned we can’t share anything. We are sitting very very closely and things will be fine soon.”
The incidents, occurring amidst ongoing political instability in Bangladesh, have heightened security fears along Meghalaya’s 443-kilometre border with the neighbouring country.
Tynsong assured that both the state and central governments are working collaboratively to address the issue. He highlighted that the Director General of Police (DG) and Chief Secretary have been directed to take necessary measures, including official meetings and communications.
While acknowledging the sensitivity of the situation, the Deputy Chief Minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to preventing any recurrence of such intrusions. He further stated that the central government is actively engaging with Bangladesh to resolve the matter.
Efforts remain ongoing to strengthen security and maintain peace along the international border.
