Manipur’s Mega Sangai Festival 2022 Begins Today; Sushmita, Nargis, Lara to Add Glitz and Glamour

The much awaited Sangai Festival 2022 is all set to begin today. The event will be inaugurated by Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy in the presence of CM N Biren Singh.
One main attraction of the Festival this year would be the participation of Bollywood divas Sushmita Sen, Nargis Fakhri and Lara Dutta who would walk the ramp for well-known Manipuri designers Robert Naorem, Kumarjit Laishram.
This year, Manipur is celebrating the 11th edition of the Sangai festival which will begin on November 21 and continue till November 30.
India’s first Miss Universe and actress Sushmita and Miss Universe 2000 and actress Lara Dutta will walk the ramp for Robert Naorem. Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri will walk the ramp as the showstopper for Kumarjit Laishram at the opening ceremony of the Sangai Festival at Moirang Khunou.
Lara Dutta will walk the ramp as the showstopper for Robert Naorem at the Peace Ground in Churachandpur district on November 26, while Sushmita Sen will walk the ramp as the showstopper at the closing ceremony of the Sangai Festival at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) in Imphal.

Robert Naorem, a designer well-known for his contributions to Manipuri handloom and textiles, hopes that Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta’s presence in the state will boost the development of Manipur’s handloom and textile industries globally.
Organised by the Manipur Tourism Department, the theme this time is “Festival of Oneness”. The festival supposed to be one of Manipur’s biggest and most popular.
The state’s cultural diversity will be highlighted at this one-of-a-kind festival named after the state animal, the Sangai (Cervus Eldi Eldi).
Host of events will be organised at as many as 13 venues across the state. The festival is being held hosted after a gap of two years because of Covid-19.
