Security forces stationed in the area responded swiftly, engaging the miscreants in a brief gunfight that eventually forced them to retreat.

Tension flared once again in Manipur as armed miscreants from Kangpokpi side targeted Tairenpokpi, a village near the Imphal West border, in a brazen attack.

The incident that occurred on December 19 at around 7:10 pm, saw the attackers using automatic weapons and bomb rounds, disrupting the fragile peace in the region.

Security forces stationed in the area responded swiftly, engaging the miscreants in a brief gunfight that eventually forced them to retreat. Despite the violent outburst, the villagers stood firm this time, choosing not to flee their homes.

According to local residents, the attack appears to be a premeditated effort to intimidate security forces ahead of the imminent deployment of newly trained Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel from Assam. The IRB reinforcements, traveling to Manipur via land routes, are expected to strengthen the region’s fragile security situation amidst ongoing unrest.

Authorities are now on high alert, with additional measures being taken to secure the area and ensure the safe arrival of the IRB personnel. Security forces remain committed to restoring peace and preventing further escalations in the violence-ridden region.
