First Published: 2nd September, 2024 14:08 IST

The attacks were also reported from Yainingpokpi in Imphal West from the hill side along the Imphal-Ukhrul road.

Situation continues to be volatile in the periphery areas of Manipur with firing reported from multiple places this morning.

As per sources, intermittent firing broke out along the fringe areas in Koutruk, Sekmai and Sinam Khul since around 5:30 AM.

Reports are coming in of sophisticated weapons including RPGs and hi-tech drones being used in the fresh attacks.

Meanwhile reports are also coming in that a security post of Manipur Rifles was captured by armed men at Koutruk yesterday, who allegedly came down from the hillside.

Attacks were also reported from Yainingpokpi in Imphal West from the hillside along the Imphal-Ukhrul road. And once again, as per locals, hi-tech drones were used to drop bombs. The attacks reportedly took place post midnight.

On Sunday, at least 2 people were killed and several others, including a police commando, were injured after a gunfight broke out near Koutruk in Kangchup region in the Imphal West district of Manipur.

Lok Sabha MP A Bimol Akoijam targeted the Centre on the prevailing situation in the state.

Taking to social media, Akoijam said that the latest round of criminal and deadly assault on the civilians, including using drones to bomb residential areas, exposes the failure of the law enforcing agencies, particularly the armed forces under the Government of India which are deployed in Manipur.
