NPP Seeks Apology from Ex-Manipur CM Biren Singh

“We condemn N Biren Singh’s remark and demand an apology,” NPP Working President Marcuise N. Marak said
The National People’s Party (NPP) has condemned former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and sought an apology from him for dragging late P.A. Sangma, father of Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma and former Lok Sabha Speaker and a veteran politician of northeast into the Manipur crisis and accusing him of favouring division of northeast into smaller states and threatening India’s unity.
Marcuise N. Marak, NPP Working President and a cabinet minister in the Conrad Sangma-led Meghalaya government, slammed N Biren Singh for attempting to blame to late PA Sangma for the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
Marak accused Singh of being responsible for the turmoil in the state and said it was unfair to bring up the name of someone who is no longer alive to defend himself.
“Everyone is aware of the mess N Biren Singh has created in Manipur. And now, he is putting the blame on P.A. Sangma, who is no longer with us in the world. P.A. Sangma was a national leader who worked for the Northeast and the people of the region. His principle was to unite everyone and not divide the people of the Northeast. We condemn N Biren Singh’s remark. It is unacceptable. He should not have put the blame on P.A. Sangma. I seek an apology from N Biren Singh,” said Marcuise N. Marak.
In a fresh political flare-up, N Biren Singh on Monday lashed out at Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma for meddling in the internal matters of Manipur and accused him of using the Manipur situation for “political posturing”.
The former Manipur CM dragged Sangma’s father, late P. A. Sangma into the issue and posted a video on X of P. A. Sangma speaking in Lok Sabha way back in 2014 where he had propagated creation of smaller states in the northeast on ethnic lines.
A war of words has since begun on X between the ex-Manipur CM Singh and Meghalaya CM Sangma who were allied in Manipur till recently.
In November 2024, Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP) had withdrawn support to Biren Singh-led BJP government in Manipur.
