The decision to suspend the police officers was made in the wake of a video of the shocking incident surfacing on July 19
In a swift response to growing public outrage, five police personnel, including the Officer-in-Charge of Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district, have been suspended following the disturbing incident where two women were stripped and paraded by a mob on May 4.
The incident, which took place in Nongpok Sekmai area, sent shockwaves through the region and triggered a wave of protests from concerned citizens. Despite some sections of the population calling for their reinstatement, the authorities have stood firm in their decision to suspend the police personnel.
In a separate but related incident, a time-bound inquiry under an Inspector General of Police has also been ordered by the state police to probe the events leading to the looting from the headquarters of the 2nd India Reserve Battalion in Naranseina, located in the Bishnupur district, on August 3.
